PIPE ROOFING – tunnel constructing under operating roads and railway lines
Pipe roofing enables construction of tunnels under already existing buildings, operating roads and railway lines especially in cases where stopping the traffic in the area is impossible.
This method consists in constructing the casing made using a number of steel pipes with diameter ranging from 500 to 1000 mm, connected by means of steel locks. Then steel pipes’ ends are closed and pipes are filled with concrete. This way a suitable support is formed to enable the tunneling and installation of stiffening frames at the same time. The frames act as struts to prevent deformation of the cross-section of the tunnel. With this kind of protection in place the bottom and top horizontal reinforced concrete beams and the side walls are subsequently constructed. Once the reinforced concrete structure reaches its durability standards the object will withstand all the loads.
Polbud-Pomorze is the only company in Poland offering complex realizations using pipe roofing technology. We offer designing and implementing the projects of any proposed constructions.
We are also the first company in Poland to construct the tunnel in pipe roofing technology under an operating railway line. It was the one and only project of that type in the country.
Advantages:
-
pipe roofing technology enables tunnel constructing under already existing constructions, road or railway line, at the same time providing assurance of road or rail traffic continuity (with some speed limits only)
-
this method enables construction of any shape of the casing, walls and underpasses (round, rectangular or arched) and tunnels of any parameters values (width, height and length)
-
pipe roofing technology may be applied to newly built tunnels as well as to existing structures undergoing restoration
-
the use of external closed casing enables application of this technology in complex geotechnical conditions (e.g. high water tables or non-bearing soils like peats and gyttjas)
